Drivetrain-aware towing

AWD TOWING

An all-wheel-drive vehicle should not be towed using a method that conflicts with its manufacturer guidance.

Start with the owner guidance

AWD and four-wheel-drive systems vary. The owner manual and vehicle manufacturer are the best sources for transport instructions. Tell the dispatcher the exact model, year, and drivetrain so equipment can be considered in that context.

Why all-wheels-up may matter

When wheels connected to a drivetrain rotate while others stay still, some vehicles risk mechanical damage. A flatbed may avoid road-wheel rotation, but loading and securement still have to suit the vehicle. Do not assume every truck can carry every SUV or modified car.

Access before dispatch

Share vehicle weight, ride height, wheel or steering damage, and pickup restrictions. If the vehicle is in a garage, report posted height and ramp conditions. The destination must also allow safe unloading.
